1994 - 1998 | The Model Home for All Ages

In 1994, we considered it as important to clarify the demand of the elderly. Elderly should be able to visit a Model Home and on the basis of that, determine what was important to them and what should change. Meanwhile, they could also test new product's prototypes. This formed the reason for the foundation of the Model Home for All Ages, which was (also) facilitated by the SEV and the ministry of VROM.     A small book has been created because of a debate, called the 'Red Thread' between producers, healthcare providers, care financers and users of social alarms. In yearly organised debates, new developments and new management regarding this field were created.  In this complex, services have been applied for comfort, safety and care. In Nuenen, research has been carefully conducted with a large number of citizens with diverse background the determine their needs.

    2000 - 2003 | Grow of home automation

The Model Home for All Ages moved to Leiden in 2000. The province Zuid-Holland had chosen four theme years for healthcare management in 2000-2003. The breakthrough of home automation, which carefully came up in 2000, provided the Van Berlo's the opportunity to hire employee for Foundation Smart Homes and to build the Smartest Home of the Netherlands. Thereby, they offered help to a home automation (pilot) project in the frame of the Vitally Grey program of the Province Brabant: Eversveld in Geldrop. This concerned 77 already existing homes of all similar types, detached and semidetached, privately owned. Vitally Grey's program 'Digital Chances' allows seniors to interactively introduce them with the possibilities of technological services and new ways of communication, such as internet and e-mail. Furthermore, a '3D Virtual Community' was realised in the Smartest Home of the Netherlands because of a grant from Novem during this period.

Furthermore, the province Limburg, the municipality Heerlen, Hogeschool Zuyd, Open University the Netherlands and the Dubo-centre managed to place the Smartest Home of the Netherlands to Limburg. In addition, Smart Homes was working along on a research on the possibilities of home automation for the benefit of living, working, care and welfare for autistic youth.

    2008 - 2012 | Events & new projects

After the enormous succes of the National Day in 2006 and 2007, Smart Homes decided to organise a two daily Event Home Automation & Smart Living in 2008. Together with Province Brabant and the municipalities Eindhoven and Veldhoven, Smart Homes wanted to give with the Smartest Home extra attention to education, durability, care and innovation in and around Eindhoven.  After the project CompanioAble had started in 2008, the Mobiserv-project started now - thanks to an European grant -, which researched the combination of an active, social robot with a smart home, aiming to support elderly to live at home longer. This year, our LEAGE-project started as well, a researchproject that, together with healthcare institutions, identified serious gaming in healthcare, and mainly rehabilitation. Besides that, Smart Homes started, next to the EOS-project, a second innovation project in the field of energy, named KnoholEM.  THE AAL Forum inspires and informes through interaction and innovation. Almost 1300 people from about 30 different countries participated in the AAL Forum 2012 from 24 - 27 September. Smart Homes organised this big event together with the ministery of VWS, province Brabant, municipality Eindhoven and Brainport Development. The Evoluon in Eindhoven was the meeting place for ambiet assisted living.
