CompanionAble
A smart home that works together with a friendly robot pall to help people with mild cognitive issues with their daily activities.
CompanionAble is a research project in which Smart Homes ad 17 partner companies and universities work together for four years. The project combines the best out of both worlds of home automation and robotics to support people struggling with forgetfulness.
The smart home is 24h/d active in all rooms of the house. The robot functions as a mobile friend, by which natural interaction is possible via speech and the touchscreen. When these two work together with other smart devices in the home environment, one could think of a lot of useful scenarios. For example, support in taking initiatives, offering structure during the day, reminding of medication, games such a memory training, smart agenda management, stimulating social interaction, and offering security.
Smart Homes is responsible for user's research and extensive pilots in the Netherlands. We are intensively involved in proceedings regarding needs identification, concept formation, ethics, integration and all phases of user focussed innovation.
The latest user testing have taken place in May 2012, in which the CompanionAble-system has been tested very extensively with end users for a couple of days, especially those with early dementia and their partners.
The following movie will give you a first impression of CompanionAble.
