SmartBEAT

The SmartBEAT project focusses on the support of eldelry who suffer from heart failure, and their network of family and friend, informal caregivers, cardiologists and other healthcare professionals. With the help of innovative, integrated SmartBEAT solutions, the patient is better enabled to take care of themself, because of home measurements and real-time feedback for caregivers. The project aims to ensure better care results and improved quality of life.

The SmartBEAT technology consist of the following modules:

  • Remote monitoring kit: a combination of sensors and communicationtechnology to follow up the health of CHF patient adequatly by measuring different clinical variables which are found necessary by the cardiologist.
  • SmartBEAT Companion: a coaching app for the smartphone connected to the monitoring kit, a user-friendly, mobile solution to easen selfcare. The app will motivate the patient with personalised interfaces, self measurements and coaching.
  • Caregivers Portal: a web application that provides informal caregivers and healthcare professionals access to (a part of) the patient data. With the help of personalised messages, the healthcare providers are kept up to date of changes in healthcare values and alarms. Furthermore, the platform offers a semantic search engine to alert healthcare providers on interesting, scientific developments and research results, based on their personal interest and keywords.

All measurement data is analysed through new algorithms and is compared to personal threshold values, to generate - if needed - an automatic alarm so the treatment can be adjusted to the current healthcare status. The SmartBEAT functionality and algorithms are developed together with cardiologists and in accordance with the guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). Next to that, SmartBEAT will focus on statistical interrelations in the data to build up knowledge and experience with an aim to improve treatment and therapy compliance.

Smart Homes works together with Stichting Gezondheidscentra Eindhoven (SGE) to measure the added value and user-friendliness of the SmartBEAT soluation in the Netherlands for both heart failure patients and healthcare professionals.
