Independent

Integration of cure & care services using ICT

The independent project aims to develop and test an integrated set of ICT-based services supporting elderly living independently.

When supporting the independent living of the elderly, today's reality is still characterised by the fragmentation in the service provision, resulting in incoherent medical care and support. Independent aims to apply and test against this background a digital infrastracture to support this trans-sectoral support.

Independent uses already existing technology as much as possible and has a clear demand oriented approach. To support a number of limitations that confront elderly, such as COPD, heart-and vascular diseases and starting dementia, services were tested in six different locations throughout Europe. These services are adjusted to the specific circumstances at the individual locations, like the differences in healthcare and legislation.

In the Netherlands, Smart Homes and TopSupport in Eindhoven and Geldrop have researched the support and selfcare of 100 COPD patients. More specifically, Smart Homes focussed on satisfying the needs, generalising new concepts and underlying process modelss and the extensive evaluation of the final system in the field of functional and social-economical.
